A fabulous new book has been published by the Hesperian Foundation, Berkley, California, USA. "Helping Children who are Deaf" is an open source of activities aimed at assisiting families and communities promote the healthy development of children who are Deaf or who do not hear well. 

Topics of the book include:

- why young children need to learn a spoken or signed language, and how to teach them 

- assessing how much a child can hear

- developing communication, listening, and social skills

- supporting parents

- educating a deaf child

- preventing child sexual abuse

- preventing deafness
