Public Lecture / Discussion On July 10

Dr. Laurene Gallimore of Gallaudet University will be presenting a public lecture / discussion on developing English literacy for Deaf students in a bilingual environment. The discussion will target parents and families of Deaf persons, educators and other professionals in the field of education, the Deaf community and persons working in the disability field. The JAD in seeking to improve the educational achievements of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children has embraced a bilingual approach to instruction. This Lecture/Discussion has been organised to:

  • Share current trends and research in the Education of Deaf /Hard of Hearing students

  • Promote the concept of bilingualism and the benefits of Natural Sign Language within literacy instruction

  • Garner the support of major stakeholders for programme implementation.
