With the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) the Jamaica Association for the Deaf (JAD) is implementing a project entitled Partnership for Literacy Enhancement for the Deaf. The project will focus primarily on improving the language development of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students through effecting a sign bilingual approach in schools for the Deaf. Suitable candidates are invited to submit consultancy proposals for the posts of (i) Psychologist and (ii) Curriculum Development Specialist


Psychologist: The overall objective of the consultancy is to identify at risk students, conduct psycho-educational assessments and provide recommendations to the parents and teachers of the participating children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. The Consultant will be expected to assist teachers, parents, and students in understanding, preventing, and addressing learning, behavioral, developmental, and emotional difficulties.

Curriculum Development Specialist:  The overall objective of the consultant is to design and develop a Jamaican Sign Language (JSL) curriculum for delivery across Grades 1-9 within schools for the Deaf in Jamaica. The Consultant will be expected to develop the curriculum content and supporting resources, conduct training of trainers and pilot the implementation of the curriculum at both the primary and secondary levels.

The consultancy is expected to commence in September 2017.
